Being Kind

Driving home the other day on a different road to my usual route, I passed by a paddock with a solitary horse in it and it felt like I passed thru a wall of sadness.  So impactful was this feeling that I did a U-turn and pulled up next to where the horse was.  I had an apple in my car and so offered it to the horse.  I could see it had some blindness, but its sense of smell knew there was apple, and it came over to the barbed wire fence that enclosed it.

As this beautiful horse ate, I stroked its nose and talked to it.  I shared my love as did the horse.  When finished, as I began to get into my car, I glanced back at the horse again who promptly pulled back his lips and gave me the biggest smile he could.  I knew he felt seen, cared for, and this was his thanks.  This feeling and image has stayed with me.

This beautiful horse is in a paddock of long grass all alone, and his sadness was felt by me.  I will visit him again sometime and again offer some love and kindness with an apple or carrot.

It's not hard to share a bit of kindness and lift the spirits of the recipient and oneself with a simple gesture.

Cheers, Beatrice
